Meet The Parish Staff
St. Francis of Assisi has a small group of paid and unpaid staff. Below are some of our key folks.
Father Omar Ontiveros
PASTOR
Fr. Omar was born and raised in Obregón, Sonora, Mexico. He went on to attend the Sonora Institute of Technology in Obregón prior to entering the seminary in that city, where he studied philosophy. In 2003 he entered Mt. Angel Seminary in Oregon and graduated with a Master of Divinity. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Salt Lake City on May 18, 2006 by the Most Rev. George H. Niederauer, eighth Bishop of Salt Lake City. His first assignment was as parochial vicar of the Cathedral of the Madeleine. He also has ministered at the parishes of Sts. Peter and Paul in West Valley City, St. Joseph in Ogden and most recently as pastor of St. Ann Parish in Salt Lake City. In addition, he served two years on the diocesan Music Committee, and was chaplain for the diocesan young Hispanic group. He also for many years offered a broadcast ministry in Spanish in both radio and television. On Aug. 2 he will begin his new assignment as pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Orem.
Yaneli Sandoval
Parish Bookkeeper/La Contable de parroquia
Yaneli Sandoval is the new bookkeeper for the parish. She started working as a receptionist for the parish last year, showing that she is a fantastic team member. She will be taking over for Janice Hauzen, who retired on July 1 after many years of working in this position. Yaneli moved here from California eight years ago. She is married and has two beautiful children.

Luis Velasco
Director of Religious Education
Bio: Luis is a native of La Paz, Bolivia. He has worked for St. Francis of Assisi for more than 30 years. He's dedicated to serving the youth. Each year he prepares hundreds of children for First Communion and Confirmation in the Spanish-language programs and coordinates with the English-language programs.

Father Rogelio Felix-Rosas

Fr. Gustavo Vidal
Former Pastor
Bio: Fr. Vidal was the 23rd pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. A native of Colombia, he came to the U.S. in 1991 to study for the priesthood for the Diocese of Salt Lake City. Fr. Vidal attended Mt. Angel Seminary in Oregon and was ordained in June 1997. He comes to us from his previous assignment as Pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Haven.
Fr. Edward Leondhas
Former Parochial Vicar
Fr. Edward is now the Administrator of St. Helen's Parish in Roosevelt. His address is 433 East 2nd North, Roosevelt, UT 84066. The website is

St. Francis of Assisi Parish was his first U.S. assignment. He was here from January to July of 2020.
Fr. Eleazar Silva-Galván
Former Pastor
Fr. Silva-Galván was born in Mexico City and attended school there before entering Mt. Angel Seminary in Oregon. He then returned to Mexico City to attend the Universidad La Salle, and did post-graduate work at Regina Apostolorum in Rome before being ordained a priest for the Diocese of Papantla by Bishop Lorenzo Cárdenas Aregullín on April 7, 2001.
Fr. Anil Kumar Kakumanu
Former Parochial Vicar
Fr. Anil K.K. is a native of India. He was born on November 15, 1983. He was ordained to the priesthood in India on April 28, 2012. He served in several parishes in India, before coming to the Diocese of Salt Lake City in 2018. He has come to St. Francis from his previous assignment at St. Helen's Catholic Church in Roosevelt.
