Sacrament of Baptism for children in English
Baptisms in English for Children (0-15 years old)

Sacrament of Baptism
in the Catholic Faith
In the Catholic Church, the Sacrament of Baptism for children is the foundational "doorway" to spiritual life that washes away Original Sin, restores the soul to grace, and permanently incorporates the child into the Body of Christ as an adopted son or daughter of God. Because God's grace is viewed as a free and unearned gift, infants are baptized on the premise that parents and godparents will nurture them in the faith until they are old through subsequent sacraments like Confirmation. The rite utilizes rich symbols—such as cleansing water, the anointing of Holy Chrism, a white garment signifying purity, and the Paschal candle representing the Light of Christ—to visibly mark an indelible, unrepeatable spiritual seal on the child's soul.
