REQUIREMENTS FOR RELIGIOUS WEDDINGS AT SAINT FRANCIS OF ASSISI IN ENGLISH
To request a date for a religious wedding at the parish, you must follow these guidelines:
- Start the process 6 months before your planned wedding date.
- To reserve your wedding date, you must first have your baptism and confirmation certificates, as well as your first communion certificate, and schedule an appointment with the deacon or priest so that, on that same day, you submit your certificates, meet with him, fill out a form and the premarital questionnaire, and reserve your date.
- If you are going to request a priest from outside this parish for your wedding, you must bring the form signed by that priest committing to perform your wedding.
- On that same day, you will fill out a complete registration form with the secretary.
- Remember not to rent your wedding reception venue before your wedding date is confirmed by the church.
- You will also be given the dates to take your premarital classes. You can take them locally or online through Catholic Marriage Prep (Online Mentor-Led Pre-Cana Classes: catholicmarriageprep.com). Once completed, you must bring the certificate and show it to the priest or deacon. You must be responsible in completing them, because if you do not have them, your religious wedding celebration cannot take place.
- You must also choose two adult witnesses known to you (family members or close friends) to testify that you are free to marry and be interviewed by the priest or deacon to fill out their form.
- For those who are not civilly married, you must apply for a license from the county two weeks before your wedding. It can be requested by email: marriage@utahcounty.gov. Once you receive the license, you must bring it to the office with the secretary or email it to: adrianix@oremstfrancis.org
- Remember, if it has been a while since your last confession, to receive the sacrament of confession or reconciliation during established times, or to make an appointment in advance with a priest before your wedding.
- Choirs are not included in the fee; you must ask the secretary for the church choir list so you can hire them yourselves. If you are going to bring a mariachi band, you must ensure that your mariachi knows how to play the Mass parts with liturgical chants; otherwise, their participation in the wedding may be denied.
- The celebration of the sacrament of matrimony takes place. Remember to arrive 10 minutes before your wedding, as priests are punctual in starting the celebration; the priest may cancel the wedding if you arrive late.
