Introduction to the Sacrament of Reconciliation

The Sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as Penance or Confession) is a beautiful encounter with God’s infinite mercy and healing love. In this sacrament, Jesus Christ reaches out to forgive our sins, relieve our burdens, and restore us to full communion with Him and His Church. It is not meant to be a courtroom trial, but rather a spiritual hospital where we receive grace, peace, and the strength to live a renewed life.


A Brief Guide: How to Go to Confession

Confessing your sins is simple and structured. Follow these steps for a meaningful experience:

  1. Preparation: Spend a few quiet moments examining your conscience using the questions below.
  2. Greeting: Enter the confessional and greet the priest with, "Bless me, Father, for I have sinned." (You can also mention how long it has been since your last confession).
  3. Confession: Tell your sins to the priest simply and honestly. (If you are unsure how to begin, the priest will gladly help you).
  4. Penance: The priest will offer some spiritual counsel and assign a penance (a prayer or small act of charity).
  5. Act of Contrition: Express your sorrow for your sins by praying an Act of Contrition : O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you, and I detest all my sins because of your just punishments, but most of all because they offend you, my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen.
  6. Absolution: The priest extends his hands and prays the prayer of absolution, pardoning your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
  7. Conclusion: Go in peace and complete your penance.

Reflect on these questions to prepare your heart:

  • Love for God: Have I put God first in my life, or have I relied on other things more than Him? Do I pray daily and keep Sundays holy?
  • Love for Neighbor: Have I treated others with respect, patience, and kindness, or have I harbored anger, resentment, or hatred? Have I gossiped, lied, or hurt anyone's reputation?
  • Stewardship: Have I been honest in my work, school, and daily responsibilities? Have I been greedy, envious, or selfish with my time and resources?
  • Purity and Integrity: Have I respected my body and the bodies of others as temples of the Holy Spirit in my thoughts, words, and actions?

  • Thursdays: 4:30 PM to 5:50 PM
